The Goodwill Tennis Tours (who wants to join?)

The Goodwill Tennis Tours is coming to the Philippines. I have three confirmed locations - Metro Manila, Naga City and Davao City. I am waiting to hear from Cagayan de Oro for the fourth site. If CDO does not come through, do you know of sites in the Visayas I can use. I have several sites in Luzon as backup but I am hesitant to go there as I already have two Luzon sites.

Our Manila program will be at the University of the Philippine - Diliman and will be as follows (the description I sent out to the sites):

The evening of 11/16 either at the Sheraton in Manila or UP Diliman an evening program to introduce ourselves, explain the program and have a question and answer session.

Friday November 17th, Saturday November 18th and Sunday November 19th - UP Diliman Program.

In the mornings for three hours we will teach the USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop. This program is designed to teach people how to teach tennis. During this program everyone is invited to participate on the tennis courts. In otherwords, tennis trainers, P.E teachers, seniors, parents, children eight to twelve, beginners up to low intermediates are all on the tennis courts. Other participants can observe but it is better that they participate because they will learn better, especially for those who want to be certified as a USPTA Developmental Coach. According to Ted, twenty four per court is the most ideal number of participants but he said that they can do up to fifty and up per court but each group would rotate - one group on the court while the other observes. Observing group rotates onto the tennis courts every ten to fifteen minutes.

We can accommodate alot of people. Ted and Kevin (and hopefully a woman tennis professional if we can recruit one) will use one court to show the techniques and once that is internalized by the participants, they will branch out to the other tennis courts to do the drill while Ted and Kevin go from court to court instructing. We can use all the courts available if we can fill them up. I asked Ted, "What if there were six tennis courts? " and he said, "Yes we can!" Obviously, the more people participating and tennis courts used will provide for less personalized instruction but if the people are motivated and want to learn, the sky is the limit.

In the late afternoons two ninety minute sessions. Each site can choose how they want to use these two sessions but we prefer that they be used for advanced players, especially juniors, to take advantage of the skills of Ted and Kevin. Ted best described it best when he told me. " If you had a Master Martial Arts Instructor come to the Philippines, would you want him to teach to your most advanced pupils or beginners? Get my point? Children up to low intermediates were taken care of in the RCW session.

We expect a large group of advanced players and we advise to break it up into two sessions. Those attending one session should not participate in the other session so that we can get maximum participation.

Regarding time: I realize that we are coming in November and the children and juniors are in school and most of the participants of the RCW work during the day. We are flexible with our times and want to accommodate as many people as possible. Therefore, we can do the advanced players two one hour sessions (ninety minutes per session if we stay with the original schedule) in the late afternoons at 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. and the RCW to start at 6:15 p.m. so that the adults who want to participate can go to the RCW after work. If we do the RCW in the evenings, the session will be shortened to two hours or two and one half hours, so people can get home at a reasonable time. (note, in the U.S., the RCW is six hours but Ted and Kevin want to go longer in the Philippines.) Obviously we would need lights to do the evening course and request a covered court(s) or a gym to use in the event of rain.

All three days will be different instruction so participants should attend from the first day. We will not go over the same information twice. The program will be started on time.

I do not have the firm schedules for the other three programs as of yet and will have in about a week. To find out more about the UP Diliman program, have the interested parties contact Coach Ariel Juliano at UP Diliman.

I do not know how to use the blogsite so forward this infor for me.
